چکیده

Direct implicit simulation of complex steady state ows is usually too dii-cult numerically in the absence of a good initial guess. \Pseudo-transient-continuation" is a physically motivated technique that follows the physical transient solution starting from a uniform ow. Here, a delicate choice of the time steps, or the CFL numbers is crucial to reduce the number of iterations. However , existing strategies such as exponential laws (EXP) or residual-norm based strategies (SER) are not robust; if some initial parameters are not carefully chosen, they may produce an excessive number of iterations or produce non-physical states (breakdowns). In this paper, we investigate this problem and propose an expert-system for the automatic determination of the CFL numbers. This expert-system uses several metrics to estimate the convergence rate and the possibility of breakdowns. It then takes the appropriate actions. Numerical results obtained on a wide variety of test cases show a systematic reduction of the total number of iterations compared to SER or EXP. Furthermore, the system seems more robust in the sense that iteration counts depend only slightly on the parameters, and breakdowns are avoided while convergence is almost guaranteed. On CFL Evolution Strategies for Implicit Upwind Methods in Linearized Euler Equations∗

In implicit upwind methods for the solution of linearized Euler equations, one of the key issues is to balance large time steps, leading to a fast convergence behavior, and small time steps, needed to sufficiently resolve relevant flow features. A time step is determined by choosing a CourantFriedrichs-Levy (CFL) number in every iteration. A novel CFL evolution strategy is introduced and compar...

Development of an Upwind Algorithm at Subsonic Regions in the Solution of PNS Equations

In this paper an upwind algorithm based on Roe’s scheme is presented for solution of PNS equations. Non iterative-implicit method using finite volume technique is used. The main advantage of this approach, in comparison with similar upwind methods, is reduction of oscillations around sonic line. This advantage causes the present method to be able to analyze supersonic flows with free stream Mac...

Weakly Implicit Numerical Schemes for a Two-Fluid Model

The aim of this paper is to construct semi-implicit numerical schemes for a two-phase (two-fluid) flow model, allowing for violation of the CFL criterion for sonic waves while maintaining a high level of accuracy and stability on volume fraction waves. By using an appropriate hybridization of a robust implicit flux and an upwind explicit flux, we obtain a class of first-order schemes, which we ...

A Composite Finite Difference Scheme for Subsonic Transonic Flows (RESEARCH NOTE).

This paper presents a simple and computationally-efficient algorithm for solving steady two-dimensional subsonic and transonic compressible flow over an airfoil. This work uses an interactive viscous-inviscid solution by incorporating the viscous effects in a thin shear-layer. Boundary-layer approximation reduces the Navier-Stokes equations to a parabolic set of coupled, non-linear partial diff...
